Listening to Overdue pod discuss The Wind In the Willows and their absolute mystification at whether the animals were people sized or animal sized. "Is the horse frog-sized or horse sized???" and I want to shake them and tell them they are reading it wrong. This is the wrong kind of sense-making to expect from this story! Ask a six year-old to explain it to you. It's fine.
My chief confusion re: TWitW as a kid was whether it was in the same universe as Frog and Toad are Friends.
