Oh, I dont think I am saying that two-state controls break light/dark.

What I am trying to say is that two-state controls break the contract that when a user chooses something, that choice will be respected.

With one of the options mapping to system, that is not the case.

There are mitigations (such as using an "auto" label on one of the options, which I also cover in my post) but that's not what is being pushed for in your post.
