Probably not, but moderation and community maintenance are burdens for every service on the fediverse, not just image-sharing services like Pixelfed, so what I'm talking about is really added burden on top of that.

Just anecdotally, Merveilles was grinding its gears recently, resulting in a ton of errors. The cause, it turned out, was several terabytes of storage clogging up the backend. I imagine that racks up pretty quickly when every post is a hi-res image or video.
