ppl are like "fiction isn't reality!" "my kink is not your kink!" "don't like, don't read!" etc until they encounter an adult or two consensually engaging in something in their own space that makes them feel a little weird, then they make the dumbest arguments on the planet to justify why this reaction is any different than pearl-clutching christian mothers. even if that argument ends up downplaying the seriousness of actual pedophilia and what that even entails.

i think the reality is a lot of these people are highkey ashamed of what they're into and try to get into kink-positivity as a means for them personally to feel less weird about themselves with the bonus of having their thing become passable as, like, virtuous somehow. so now it's not just a kink, it's a social justice issue they soooo invested in... even though they haven't evaluated why other people doing whatever they want with other adults bothers them so fucking much. which is very different from actually bring kink-positive.
