Brey, ask anyone not from the USA if we sound like the movie Starship Troopers when we talk about US military servicemembers and veterans. You just don't notice cause most of you grew up in this, which has always been a part of the American cultural zeitgeist but DEFINITELY got worse after 9/11. Things can suck, and then also get worse, and that's how jingoism and troop worship has gone in America - bad to worse and worse and worse.
