#WritersCoffeeClub Sep. 26: How does your faith feature in your works?
In most cases, it doesn't very much. In some sense there's always a God, even if it's left more ambiguous or in question. But the more I wrote, the less of an issue I made of it. I got comfortable with the idea different worlds would have their own pantheons and, in my increased wisdom, that's not incompatible, since in Biblical times gods were seen as local to a place. God is the only one who said, "naw, I'm everywhere."
At this point, writing Ethan as a bastard excluded from the family religion is... maybe the culmination of that, because it's worth exploring and sometimes good things do happen, but it's subtle, maybe coincidence. Ethan doesn't need faith to be a good person. But God might love him just a tidge more than he's been taught to believe. :)
