Modern political policies have been about making ‘food’ as cheap as possible to the customer *at the point of sale*, and this is effected with grower subsidies, overly-powerful buyers and importation on a vast scale. Large food processing and retail outfits are also allowed a seat at the table which is denied to food producers.
