Recently replaced the 24" landscape 1080p display on the left side of my soldering bench with a 32" 4K, rotated to portrait mode because I didn't have any more horizontal space to work with.
But every time the display went to sleep, it would trigger a hot plug event and all of my windows would move to the other display when it woke up.
Eventually after a bunch of trial and error I found it was specifically the HDMI implementation that was broken; switching to a DisplayPort input solved it.
