As much as I hate the removal of SD cards and headphone outputs, I don't think it's a product of secret collusion among phone makers in order to sell more dongles. Look at midrange phones by Xiaomi: some of them are targeted at mobile gamers and have more powerful SnappyDragon chips — no SD, no jack; some of them have top-tier Mediatek chips and look — phone output and SD slot; some midrangers have SoCs that belongs in the same category — SleepyDragon 4/5/6, and they also have SD card slots and headphone out 🤷
I think it has something to do with top SoCs lacking built-in DAC capabilities or something — and no one wants to shell out extra for a dedicated chip. Sharp have been keeping this up and their flagships used to have everything — but even they are seemingly giving up.
I don't get why wired headphones are considered something cheap, all my wired headphones cost more than the bluetooth rubbish a lot of people use, but apparently, they are. It probably got revealed to some visionary at Qualcomm in a mushroom trip 🤪
