I've been replaying the #MassEffect trilogy and just beat the first game. I've been reflecting on this one because it's such a unique and innovative game while also being incredibly rough around the edges and a mid-tier game at best IMHO.

* Character romances were unique for an RPG (I don't recall another game doing this first, but maybe that's just my console bias for the time period).

* Loyalty missions are kind of a thing, but hard to find and not narratively satisfying.

* Incredibly detailed world, lore, and alien species.

* Combat generally doesn't feel very good. Controls are just bad, abilities aren't terribly interesting.

* Mako missions absolutely deserve their criticism. I forgot how frequent and rough those parts are. Terribly boring.

* Story generally does land. Saren and Reapers are interesting villains.
