Democrats keep "giving ground" to Republicans despite the fact that we the people aren't. They want to backtrack on trans rights. Why? It's not voters. It's that the fascists need us to move in that direction for the whole "divide & conquer" thing to work.
It's a charade intended to keep us losing ground to the fash even when "we" win.
