I remember that being used as a "clever" shutdown regarding the use of such code: "Open-source software is only free if your time is worth nothing, hurr durr."

Those people did *not* like hearing how much time capital-E Enterprise software had cost me in workarounds. I'm not convinced this situation is fundamentally different.
