Just got a quote back from a print shop for a digest sized, offset printed comic, 26 interior pages on thin uncoated stock (thicker than newsprint, but only just.)
Full color covers, single color (probably black but maybe blue or purple) interiors.
55 cents per book, shipped, at scale. (Scale in this case meanining 5000 copies.)
Sacrifice 2-4 interior pages and/or the back cover to advertisements, at say 550/page or 350/half page and 750 for the back cover, and that covers the cost of the run and initial shipping.
Stick a $1 or even .50 cover price on the book, and offer them wholesale for 15% over shipping costs or something like that.
Cheap and cheerful comics.
