yup took me a while to figure it out as well. The manufacturer sells the "normal" side plates separately. Without them it looks a bit like a drawer. 😂 I'll be using it for tree slices so it'll be fine.
The plates are quite expensive for what they are. Their hydraulic kit OTOH is quite cheap. Go figure...
