Turns out my recent "I don't like the Pilot 823 as much as I used to" was due to some issue with the tines.
I *gently* pressed them back into alignment and the scratchyness went away, the ink flows better, etc.
I still think the Lamy is amazing though, but I've read online that the quality of their nibs are higihly variable, so your mileage may vary.
