A pox on the house of every single asshole who has said to me or another blind person, "Can't/don't you have someone who can see who can do XYZ for you?" Guess what, Blind people deserve privacy, blind people deserve autonomy, blind people deserve to keep their business to themselves if they want just like every sighted person does. Getting sighted help is not the go to default solution for many people for many reasons and I wish people would take it off the table completely. If the blind person offers it as a solution, great, but sighted people, please stop thinking that we have some sort of helper/assistant/carer who does our bidding. This goes triple for large companies. This toot brought to you by the last 20 god damned minutes I spent on the phone trying to pay the bill for the recent hospitalization but I can't because they require a number that was sent to me in paper and which the Ai is not recognizing correctly. So I guess the next time I'm there in person for an infusion I'm going in person to the billing office to have it out.
