Dear MP Kelloway,
I'm writing to you on this unseasonably cool late-June morning with 2 things on my mind, those being the heat wave Europe is currently experiencing and Mark Carney's murderous drive to embed us even more deeply into the fossil fuel industry.
We share this planet, and the deaths in France - including the dozens of drownings of people seeking any relief from the heat - are in part because of Canada's fossil fuels.
I want to emphasize this: every tax dollar we give to oil companies helps to murder people through climate change. While you in our government and the media are unable to say it clearly, the science is clear.
Let alone the issues arising from pipelines on unceded Indigenous land, the local damaging environmental consequences of fossil fuel exploitation, and the economic consequences of oil dependency in a climate crisis, the decisions of our government to subsidize and encourage fossil fuel expansion is unspeakably evil.
We in the public will remember who destroyed the planet.
