I suspect many people in libre software movement have very little experience of organising socially and politically outside of the ineffective politics of individual choice.
But I'm not being shady, this can be learned through doing.
My first tip would be to organise a online discussion group (splitting into smaller rotating groups of 5 and 6) to discuss the issue beyond an email thread. Perhaps some sort of broad gen AI skeptical platform could be built within Debian.
