Timothy #Snyder has made some important contributions to the study of illiberalism and interwar #fascism. I've read two of his books and while they weren't awful, I'd recommend neither.
Why? He gets locked into his own ideas so much he doesn't take an honest look at any evidence that doesn't support his big idea. Not the worst sin, I promise, but, honestly, not great for quality research.
Take his #obeyindavance thing for example. There's a MASSIVE hole in the middle of it.
