I like it. I've also used similar terms (mostly "resistance training") in some of my notes:
Do not forget: suffering is not abnormal. Suffering is the most real thing there is, it is the base state of human existence. There is tension between who you are right now, and who you want to - and could - be. That tension is resistance, and overcoming that resistance means work - and work is suffering. So one shouldn’t be worried about suffering. One should be worried about not suffering - because that’s when you are stagnant, that’s when you don’t have a goal to strive for. And not having a goal - that’s a slow, psychological and spiritual death. Not having a goal is when you are prone to drown in the ocean of life and sink into the meaninglessness below. Physical resistance grows and sustains your muscles; psychological resistance grows and sustains your mind; spiritual resistance grows and sustains your soul.

Moses spent 40 years in the wilderness. Jesus spent 40 days in the desert. Were they abandoned by God?

No. They were being forged and reformed. Strength, be it physical, mental, or spiritual, does not emerge from nothingness. It is grown by resistance, and the repetition in trying to overcome it. It is birthed in the juxtaposition of one’s will against one’s reality, in the friction between being and becoming.

The descent into the underworld is not a detour, it is an essential part of the process. It is the burning away of the overgrowth and the debris; the unmasking and falling away of the untrue, the excess, the parts of you that are unworthy of the journey. It is the germination phase of the seed planted within you - cold, dark, and lonely, but essential, nevertheless.
OP's view of Stoicism is a potential interpretation, but that's not my view of the philosophy. My stance, and one of the goals in disseminating those ideas, has always been to empower the individual (in service of the greater good). That's why one of the very first quotes I shared on the page was this great quote by :
“All it takes is a decision to act. A decision to let the old, lame, insane people driven by darkness who currently run the world know that you're not taking their shit anymore. You're taking what's yours.”
