Being openly queer will garner attention no matter what, but remember that most folks range from ambivalent to curious. The bigots who'd actually want to do damage are few and far between, and will make themselves known rather quickly. They'd typically be hiding if it weren't for equally bigoted folks with lots of money and influence trying to normalize and embolden this bigotry in the media, but most normal folks don't agree with that rhetoric and will still regard you as a person.
