I would have assumed the awe at the full sized option would slow them down, but with trick-or-treat fading in popularity compared to Halloween parties, maybe the traditions & etiquette that goes with them are being lost?

Maybe next year cut it down to two options so you can ask them what they want ("chocolate or chips?") & hand it over instead of holding out the tray?
