The reality is that every social movement starts and ends with living conditions. Precarity makes people conservative and security focused. So if you induce precarity and coopt security, you hold all the keys to the castle.
No climate movement can succeed on a message of sacrifice, because most people are barely holding on - *by design* mind you.
Only by improving material conditions for everyone can you alleviate enough pressure to allow people to downshift.
