I wouldn't even say it ends with switches to macOS/ChromeOS. I'm saying the people that claim to holdout on their 'preferred' version of Windows, it always ends up like: "oh shoot, my computer died, and I needed to 'be able to get work done', so I had to get a new computer with $NEXT_WINDOWS_VERSION (or sometimes it can be as shallow as some new game release that's not supported by their holdout option)
Usually it's the people that don't make that claim, that usually will simultaneously pursue other options (macOS/ChromeOS/Linux/etc), before any sort of disruption or whatever. Whereas for the other type, the "I'm holding out longest I can", will virtually ALWAYS compromise on their claim, as an ever-continuing cycle, whether its from Win7, Win10, etc
