Banks aren't debanking you because they think you're a criminal.

They happen because:
🔸 Checking whether a crypto transfer is legitimate takes resources and incurs costs to the bank
🔸 Getting those checks wrong risks enormous fines
🔸 So many banks preemptively flag transactions coming from exchange accounts and take the safer, and more cost-effective solution by just not allowing these transactions

Which raises the question: how does your bank know the money came from an exchange?

Because most exchanges pay out from shared IBAN accounts, held in the exchange's own name.

That makes it a third-party payment.

You can check this-> open your exchange/bitcoin app, tap deposit, look at whose name is on the account details.

Third-party payments carry more risk than first-party ones, with or without Bitcoin involved. But not all of them get blocked - the ones originating from an exchange are the problem.

First-party payments, sent from an account in an individual's or business's own name, carry far less risk.

Same name on both sides. Makes it much cleaner and nothing for the bank to untangle.

TL;DR:

👉🏻use licensed, MiCA-compliant platforms
👉🏻use a platform that provides a dedicated vIBAN, not a shared one
👉🏻give your bank a heads-up before large transfers
👉🏻Keep all paperwork with you long-term related to buys and sells
👉🏻Choose a platform that provides the dedicated paperwork needed for the bank.

Debanking is an unfortunate event and there will be always be friction between the traditional banking rails and services offering Bitcoin for a while.

However, until adoption outgrows the need for banks, the bridges matter.
