"Disabled people just want to be treated like everyone else"
No, we actually want to be treated like we are disabled. It's not our fault others define "disabled" as "less than human".
I am, in fact, desperate for people to treat me like I'm someone who needs help. I don't want to be treated like an able-bodied person because I am not one and treating me that way is actively harmful.
People should be taking me to the doctor and giving me money and arranging care so I can have surgery.
