Using Date() on frontend site leaves a potential bug of user having wrong date set in the system. Also, users having different year in different timezones during New Year's Eve.

By using an independent commercial API, the only downsides are architecture complexity, outage issues, data leaks, API wrong responses, and additional costs. This is objectively a better deal.
