My family moved house when I was 13. There was a couple over the road who'd bought theirs in the 1950s, as their first house. The woman had overspent their budget at the auction, by a massive £50, getting the house for £750.
Those houses are now going for about £750,000. Accounting for inflation, they paid a little over £10,000 in today's money.
