Coming to realise that in at least some parts of the US, houses simply do not have distinct property boundaries or gardens. Just a house on the ground and then at some point there's another house, no fences or hedges or anything in between. Occasionally a single waist-height bar but nothing to give privacy or prevent anything smaller than cattle crossing.
I knew front gardens tended to be like that but all-round is a new discovery.
