I forgot how shitty Apple was. Got a 2019 Mac Pro off eBay and the seller removed management but not the Activation Lock which prevents you from adjusting secure boot. He contacted the firm he was selling for with the serial number and they got Activation Lock removed via the previous user's iCloud.
I installed Linux Mint just to make sure Linux worked, but I think I'm going to attempt a full Gentoo with the t2 kernel overlay.
96GB of DDR4 and and a 16-core (32-thread) Xeon for $2066 (including taxes/shipping)! It has an AMD in it (5700X I think?) which should still be supported under ROCm. I plan on 3D printing a bracket to add another power supply internally so I can add in my AMD R9700 and an older 3080-Ti.
I should be able to run my video, image and even a small LLM on this thing between the 3 cards. Loading times will be a little slower than a modern CPU, but it shouldn't be significant.
