I started my tech career in the late 90s. There were so many people coding who had no idea what they were doing (myself very much included) and were just in it for the money (I was in it for the money, but not "just").
When the bubble burst, most of them went off chasing other "easy" money. The guy I was working with went off to sell long distance phone cards.
The people who stayed in tech are still there. Those who left never came back. I think of this a lot lately.
