I am from Czech and can confirm that taxes for average employee is approx 60%
In detail it is approx 42% income tax. Then there is approx 21% on almost everything, and consumer tax which differs based on type of goods.
Significant tax is on petrol, 1 Galon cost approx 8.2 USD (incl. tax) the combined (consumer and vat) tax is 45.3%
Regarding food, here in Czech we eat shit 😟 , even we can afford to buy expensive food. Based on my experience, you can get high quality food in US, but it is expensive, however at least you can buy it.
