Eh it was pretty half half and more entertainment than anything. Ibn Arabi was after Ghazali actually. It’s more that the scholarship kind of split after him. At least some people understood it’s not about Ghazali, or Neil, or Orientalism and more about being aware of what scholars and interpretations we follow and delegate our spiritual lives to. I think SAIF mainly gets clowned for not taking themselves seriously enough - which is fine, except in the realm of sovereignty (they still use Discord). Individual sovereignty builds collective sovereignty. Had a more wholesome discussion about it the post itself:
Al-Ghazali, despite best intentions, killed Islamic pursuit of philosophy, mathematics and science, and created the fear-mongering class of self-defeating Muslims afraid of innovation and service to all mankind, attracting the wrath of Genghis Khan for their hubris - as they doubled down in attributing the decline of the Muslim world to emulation of the West, rather than performative self-righteous practice of rituals with little to no connection to the spirit, and the awe of being engulfed in the beauty of God’s creation, vilifying the works of the great sufis like Ibn Arabi in their wake and leaving us easily colonized, lacking all tools of sovereignty.
