My fairly off the cuff view of it is it is a terribly designed really shitty bit of software. (But my PoV is very much that of a Linux//Unix C/C++ networking/service software kinda old-timer.)
But I accept maybe that the real problem is it just isn't a piece of software that should be used in this single/low user mode of operation. It's designed for infrastructure, to be using storage as a service, etc. (So in a lot of ways it is simply as badly designed as any modern bit of web software lol.)
