The big false economic narrative used to preserve wealth that I am aware of is, "things are more expensive because of immigrants". This seems intuitively right because immigrants are people who need things like housing, just the same as anyone else. The false story goes, that because the immigrants compete for houses and other resources, they drive prices up due to supply & demand.
This is false because the immigrants have no greater buying power. They're priced out of the market the same.
