OK, I really didn’t want to farm out the work AND buy the tools, so I managed with sandpaper on edge like a knife. It opened the slots, doesn’t look as slick, but you can see, he left the strings flush to the top of the nut in the before pic, and you can see how far I’ve lowered them here. 💜

Loosened and tightened every string repeatedly to do it, these nearly matched tuners are working alright. I may be able to wait until a regular string change first.

It’s a bit funny that after a month away from this insoluble problem, where I was never going to get proper tuners for this foreign vintage 12 string, suddenly I feel like a have almost a whole spare set. LOL 🙄
