Yesterday someone "optimized" Karateka. They fed their LLM a floppy image and got back a game that runs faster. Mechner took months or years to build it.
That person doesn't know how it's faster in detail. "It added lookup tables in the language card".
All of that kind of took the wind out of my sails. Why even invest time and energy getting good at something when everyone else is pretending and it's hard to see the difference and no-one cares about the difference?
