Kitchen thoughts....
I do wish we had reliable, good veggie box deliveries near me. I had an excellent one during COVID, but they went back to just commercial supplies when businesses started getting back to normal. They were THE BEST. The quality was excellent yet even a little less cost than supermarkets. I can't find a replacement that is consistent in quality and variety.
I have had such fun this week with a fridge stocked with veg and other things I didn't end up using for xmas, leftovers from what I did make, and items the host of the xmas dinner sent me home with (her leftover dishes plus some fruit and veg as she was going away the next day).
They will have lasted until New Year's day.
It is only this time of the year that I have such bounty to play with, and I've made or composed dishes that I wouldn't normally make. With cost of food so high now, I shop more carefully at other times. During COVID, when I cooked with abandon and shared food widely, the weekly food cost was less than it is today.
My leftovers activity today is to use up leftover beetroot and carrots to make two big jars of fermented drinks. Beetroot kvass and carrot kaanji. I haven't done any ferments for a while, so it is time to start again with some Summer produce.
