Maybe ten years ago I built our bed. It's actually really nice; I'm very proud of it. Cost me about a thousand bucks in wood, paint, etc. I'm a big guy so I built it solid. A few weeks later we went to a furniture store and saw a bunch of crappy beds for 3-4 thousand bucks. I laughed so much that day.. ;)
