"Optimism of the will. Pessimism of the intellect." — Oh, that's a beautiful summary of my own current attitude too! Technology is neither magic, nor religion, nor inevitability and it's painful to observe pillars of society increasingly treating it like a mixture of these, with a parallel public disinterest in deeper critical examinations/viewpoints and lack of a generally more skeptical attitude towards hyperbolic claims made by AI companies & researchers. A more mature stance is needed (esp. in politics and academia) than picking up these claims as gospel, as circular justifications, and rehashing them ad infinitum until they become a "truth"... (the default PR strategy of any propaganda project)
