Do you call it a burglary when your boyfriend comes into the rental flat you both share, and pawns off that antique vase for beer money? It's complicated. Women (and men) should have all the support and protection we can give them to seek help for abusive behavior in their loved ones and relatives, but they can make their own decisions, and shouldn't be required to report it to the authorities if they don't feel it's warranted.

So the hard part is supporting the people who *want* to report the crime. That's where the system is broken. That and the people who gaslight her for trying.
