The assessment I take seriously comes out of the Black community, & (as far as my ignorant white ass can tell) boils down to, "Well, he •says• all the right things, but there's...•something• that's just not quite right...."

Which, as I say that, lines up very well with your assessment.

(& also that he put his effort into ousting Crocket, which is concerning.)
