⚡️🇫🇷🇨🇳 NEW - Mbappé appeared on a French TV show, and the host asked him: What are the funniest images you’ve seen on social media?
Mbappé: The funniest image is the one where they put my face on someone else… I think it was a Chinese dictator.
The person Mbappé was referring to was “Mao Zedong,” the founder of modern China in 1949, whom the Chinese consider a red line.
A huge outcry erupted in China immediately, and three companies (Dongbeng, Mangniu, Milkground) terminated their multimillion-dollar contracts with him, while the Chinese public called for a boycott of Mbappé and for Chinese television to stop broadcasting La Liga matches.
Recently, Mbappé posted an official apology to the Chinese people on his personal account (the tweet in question), but the outrage has not subsided.
A single image destroyed his reputation in a country with over a billion people, and contracts worth colossal sums were terminated… all because of something he was unaware of.
