This seems like a major generalization to me. Loads of women of all political stripes and none are often fearful and willing to compromise because MEN of all stripes are TERRIFYING, POWERFUL and DANGEROUS.

Socialization teaches us this. I know I learned my lessons young (even though my dad was a decent, non-violent man) and often it's all I can do to stop myself from mild sucking up (not with ALL MEN though!). I don't understand it myself because I get nothing out of it except the feeling that I've appeased the devil, but am still not safe.

I just read Cilka’s Journey. She was only 16 when forced into Auschwitz and ended up forced to cooperate with the 'masters' or die which caused her massive amounts of shame, guilt and shutdown. (Although few of us are likely to die as a result of men's threats, that fear is always there for many.) When the Russians came to 'rescue' the prisoners of Auschwitz, they found her guilty due to her forced 'cooperation' and she was forced into a similar prison in Siberia where she was again raped constantly. Somehow after all that she was still able to fall in love with a man, then stay with him for FIFTY YEARS after all that!

I believe a lot of our behaviour is instinctive and it's sometimes impossible to overcome that.
