FWIW, I find that if I listen to the radio [spoken word programs, not music] with earphones while I’m doing housework, the work gets done faster and feels much less tedious.

I used to just have a radio with a speaker switched on in one room, but when I’m moving about a lot, with running water and other noise from the housework, it would obscure so much of the sound that it became an added burden to try to follow the program. With headphones, I can hear everything easily, and it’s almost an ideal way to listen for me, since I get restless trying to listen to audio when I’m just seated and doing nothing.
