I knew tenured Berkeley faculty. I also knew the former Chancellor of Berkeley who was a member of that faculty, along with her late husband. Most Chancellors, and often most Presidents, are academics who chose a dual path as administrators. Why do you not know this, when you suggest the answer is simply more faculty control when you guys are part of what you identify as the problem.
For disclosure, I served on a Presidential Search Cmte, along with FACULTY representatives, alumni, trustees, and students, and faculty are NOT powerless. Hold your own members accountable.
