In first year undergrad microprocessor engineering modules, Jim and Bill got all of us to hook a microphone / photodiode / mercury switch to a 6502/68000 board, and write some Assembly code to tail random hex that presented on the Peripheral Interface Adapter to generate randomness. We were all very well versed in the kind of bad things that can happen if you assume the hardware will give you true entropy. (most chips just pull it from a table)

NVK and Coldcard using a script and the device serial number - even in the model with a camera - is obviously a backdoor.
Serious questions: does anyone have an evidence based idea on how Satoshi generated entropy / keys? Is it known if he used a passphrase?

He didn’t use a hardware signer. It seems likely he used a computer that had been online or continued to be connected to the internet to generate randomness.

The offline only private key mantra feels like it’s potentially a psyop. It’s impossible for regular people to know exactly what components purpose-built hardware signers use. I’m scared of them.
